Knik Glacier tour

It was another great day to fly and get a few more hours on the Avid+. Everything was going great; the Knik River is one of my favorite places to go and close to home. The pictures are of the Knik glacier, Colony Glacier, Lake George and Lake George Glacier. On the way back I landed to take a break and get a picture of the Avid+ with Pioneer Peak in the background; that is when things got a little sticky. The starter spun but the prop did'nt. After quite a bit of messing with and head scratching I discovered that the starter ring had spun on the flywheel. Fortunately there is also a set of bevel head screws around the flywheel to hold the ring as well. I just happened to have the right allen wrench in my tool box and could get just a little more bite on them; enough for one more start. I sure didn't want to leave my baby out on the river overnight but at least I was a lot closer to home than yesterday. The good Lord was looking out for me again!

I determined another important piece of information also; You can't hand prop the Subaru. Unfortunately this puts me out of business until I can get a new flywheel from Stratus and get it on. I don't know if I will have it back in the air before the 16 Feb flyout to Fish Lakes Lodge.banghead.gif

Nice Pics Mr.

I wonder if you can use a lil sleeve retainer to put on that ring gear to hold it from slipping. The sleeve retainer is some mean stuff that takes a fair amount of heat to get it to trun loose.

When I am out on my own I have a phobia about shutting down cause with the clutch I cant prop my plane. I have made a few quick pit stops and I never shut down for them.

Get that lil bugger back in shape and be ready for the ID. I changed my work schedule so I am planning on flying back from the lodge on the 21st or 22nd depending on how much fun I am having
